When you think of termites, what’s the first thing to come to mind? Probably a headache. Nothing makes a homeowner shudder like the mention of these tiny, wood-chewing insects. Their appetite for wood is only one small part of the picture. Some termites maybe complete pests but others may be considered artists, with the elaborate above-ground mounds they create. Having you say, “What a work of art.”
Termites may be tiny on a micro level, but their strength lies in their numbers. While all termites build nests of some sort, not all termites build mounds. Some build up damage. These chewing insects eat through wood from the inside out, so by the time you notice damaged wood in your home, the termites may have been in your home for quite some time. They can cause significant damage to important parts of the home like the foundation, window casings, floor joists and other structural elements. Not all their work of art is great.
The best defense is a great offense, make sure to get a regular service inspection to reduce the likelihood of a termite infestation and prevent issues before they become a larger problem.
