Uninvited Guests

  • By:Admin

When it comes to termites many homeowners unknowingly invite termites into their home by providing food. Termites are attracted to plants, shrubs, and trees. Unfortunately, there is no insurance policy that covers termite damage. However, there are things you can do to spot and correct this problem quickly.

If you find them, here are a few things that should be done:

  • Cracks in stucco and concrete and gaps in siding should be sealed and everything should be painted or stained.
  • All wood like stairs and railing should have concrete footing or piers to avoid ground contact.
  • Soil around a home’s foundation should be 8 inches below the walls and drain away from the house.
  • Find and correct all leaks inside and out because these pests love damp wood.

Once termites have entered a building they do not limit themselves just to wood, also damaging paper, cloth, carpets, and other cellulose materials. As social insects, termites live in colonies that, at maturity, number from several hundreds to several million individuals. Their habit of remaining concealed often results in their presence being undetected until the timbers are severely damaged and exhibit surface changes. Make sure to take the right precautions when dealing with termites. It is important to call a termite expert to help you solve your termite infestation.
